This is a tough nut to crack,
Nevertheless, I plug away, I plug away
Though the pen in my hand doesn’t
Fit through the hole in the fence no
Matter which way I turn and push the pen.
I consider the fence and whether
My effort is round enough at the edges,
If I am thrilled enough or if my
Pocketful of words is lackadaisical and
Lacks the verve to ignore the fence and
Leap for the moon.
My restless muse gathers wool
While I poke among the
Haystacks for that damn needle.
