Most of us who write plan to publish. Some go the traditional publisher route, others decide to self-publish. Whichever way you choose, remember this: what you write is a product of words. You should treat what you do as a business and act accordingly. You are in the business to sell your work, so keep the following things in mind.
Don’t get into arguments with those who give you one star reviews. Yes, there are trolls out there who think this is a fun way to pass the time. Ignore them.
Don’t put down other authors in an open forum.
Do not treat those you hire like mindless minions.
Don’t send private messages asking someone to buy your book. That’s akin to bothersome telemarketers.
Treat your editors and beta readers with respect. Pay attention to what they tell you about your work, so you can produce the best product possible.
When it comes to your Author or book pages on FB, be professional there too. Stop with stupid selfies or giving people the finger. You’re an adult and a business person so act like one. What you do on your personal FB page doesn’t matter. Keep the two separate.
