Writers Envy

The morning temperature of a cool fifty-nine degrees represents a departure from the norm in Southern Maryland. Typically, it’s warm and humid, and folks are looking forward to another sweltering day in the oppressive Mid-Atlantic heat.

However, I will enjoy the comfortable temperature since Mother Nature has a sense of humor and may send the temperature back to normal, or even higher tomorrow. The cooler weather also reminds me that autumn is just around the corner. Autumn already. “Where,” I ask myself, “has the year gone?” It seems like we just celebrated Independence Day, Mothers Day, Christmas. Time is passing so fast.

Life is passing so fast. Every new dawn brings me one sunset closer to the Autumn of my life. My summer is drawing to a close. My graying temples will soon more closely resemble a snow cap, and my bones will protest the cold. My mind, though, will remain the same…
